Wooden boards from reclaimed 2" thick Pennsylvania ceiling rafters are mounted into a frame that is welded out of sturdy grating steel you might know from industrial loading docks and ramps. As the grating has a three-dimensional structure, the corner are sculptured using welding and grinding. The steel surface is wire-brushed and the steel and the wood are waxed or coated to your specifications. The photos show the various grating materials that you can choose from.
